Michael Drange
is a singer/songwriter based in the San Gabriel
Valley, just east of Los Angeles. He has been
writing and performing in Southern California for
over 20 years. He is a voting member of the
National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences
(The GRAMMY Awards) and has a Masters Degree in
Commercial Composing and Arranging.
Michael grew up in Morgantown,
West Virginia, where he began playing the piano at
the tender age of five. Five years later he picked
up the saxophone, and soon after, started playing
in his first rock band. Those early years playing
the music of Billy Joel, Elton John and the Doobie
Brothers gave Michael his roots in pop/rock. Now
as a singer/songwriter, Michael fuses those early
influences with elements of soul, country and jazz
to create a singular style.
As a performer,
Michael presently performs regularly with the
“rock and soul” band Classic
Jam. He also performs with his quartet
performing jazz standards, pop songs and
original material. Based in Southern California, Michael has released three
albums, and has composed two scores for
Rug Productions.
Michael
presently
teaches music at Garvey Intermediate School in
Rosemead California and is the Director of the San Gabriel
Valley Concert Band. In
addition to his teaching duties, Michael is also
the President of the Garvey
Education Association. In
2005, Michael was named the Garvey
School District Teacher of the Year and in
2006 he was the WHO Award recipient for the Garvey Education
Association.
